This is a course for students that would like to learn hand sewing skills from basic dressmaking stitches to embroidery. You will start by learning techniques and collectively put them together in a final sampler. You will need to keep a technical file of evidence with notes. What You'll Learn
You will cover these areas:
鈥� Become familiar with sewing techniques related to dressmaking, basic hem stitches, even basting, irregular basting and diagonal basting.
鈥� Develop basic skills and methods for hand sewing, back stitch, stab stitch, prick stitch and saddle stitch, overcast and whip stitch, tailor tacks and thread marks
鈥� Explore embellishment hand stitches, chain stitch, blanket stitch and buttonhole stitch, herringbone and slip stitch, a blind hem, bound hem and rolled hem, shirt buttons, hand stitched zipper, blanket stitch, french knot, straight, bullion knot, chain, long and short stitch, satin stitch, fish bone, woven wheel, lazy daisy.

How Will I Be Assessed?
You will agree an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) with your tutor identifying what you want and need to gain from the course. You will build up a folder of work which shows the range of skills and knowledge you have developed. You will receive supportive feedback throughout the course and track your progress through your Individual Learning Plan.

This course is a practical creative course. As well as working independently, you will also be working in groups. The tutor will be demonstrating and accessible for advice at all times during the session.
