Understanding Community Interpreting Level 1 Award
This course offers the opportunity for learners who are speakers of other languages to learn about the area of Community Interpreting. Learners may wish to study this subject as they have an interest in the topic or they may wish to use the qualification as a stepping stone to becoming a Community Interpreter. The qualification offers the opportunity to learn about the language skills required when working in the community – giving an awareness of how language changes depending on the situation. There is also an opportunity to look at how Public and Voluntary Service sectors work and their interaction with the community. The role of the interpreter is explored and discussed.

How Will I Be Assessed?
You will build up a portfolio folder of work which shows the range of skills and knowledge you have developed. The work you produce will provide evidence of the units delivered. You will also receive supportive feedback throughout the course and will be given the opportunity to talk to your tutor and review your work.
Entry Requirements
You need a willingness to learn and a strong desire to seek work. You also need to come to college with a good attitude and be prepared to work hard. You must be over 19 years of age.
All learners must undertake an assessment before being enrolled on this course. This will be done on the ‘Find Out About Community Interpreting’ course prior to the main course starting.

Learners may wish to progress onto the Ascentis Level 2 Certificate in Community Interpreting (learners will need an assessment for this which will be done in class).
